You'll have the autonomy to lead high-quality audit engagements, the platform to influence strategy, and the backing of a well-established national firm that continues to invest heavily in its mid-market and owner-managed business offering.
The role is designed for someone who already operates at Director level and is comfortable being accountable for both technical delivery and commercial outcomes. You’ll work closely with ambitious business owners and leadership teams, often acting as a trusted adviser rather than just an auditor, with the opportunity to build long-term relationships that go well beyond compliance.
For a Responsible Individual looking to broaden their impact, this offers the chance to combine leadership, client influence and business development in an environment that values autonomy, quality and entrepreneurial thinking.
What you'll do
You’ll take full responsibility for managing a portfolio of SME and owner-managed audit clients, overseeing engagement delivery from planning through to completion. You’ll act as the key point of contact for clients, ensuring work is delivered to a high technical standard while maintaining strong commercial awareness around risk, scope and profitability.
You’ll lead on the review of complex audit files, provide clear direction to senior managers and teams, and ensure consistent quality across engagements. Alongside delivery, you’ll play a central role in developing client relationships, identifying new opportunities, and supporting wider business development activity across the region.
You’ll also contribute to the leadership of the wider team, supporting development, coaching senior staff, and helping to shape a high-performance culture across the practice.
What you'll need
• Must hold RI (Responsible Individual) status
• Proven experience operating at Audit Director level
• Strong background in SME and owner-managed business audit
• Experience within a mid-tier or top 50 accountancy firm environment preferred
• Track record of managing client portfolios and leading audit engagements end to end
• Strong commercial awareness with evidence of contributing to business development
• Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to operate autonomously while contributing to wider firm strategy
