THE ROLE
An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join the Commercial & Marketing department at Rangers Football Club in a senior leadership role. The Head of Corporate will take wide-ranging strategic, commercial, and operational leadership for several corporate, hospitality and non-matchday revenue functions at Ibrox Stadium and New Edmiston House.
This newly created position will shape and execute the commercial strategy with a clear vision to maximise profitability across a range of corporate revenue-generating areas, including the club's new joint venture with its incoming catering partner.
The Head of Corporate will report to the Director of Commercial & Marketing, lead a team of six full-time staff and sit on the board of the club's new catering partner joint venture. On a match day, the Head of Corporate will be directly responsible for 30 Rangers corporate staff & match day hosts and indirectly for over 350 match day staff across hospitality lounges and match day F&B concessions.
Responsibilities will include overseeing the extensive VIP Hospitality programme, the Corporate Travel function (European VIP trips & International Tours), Corporate Ticketing, Stadium Retail Concessions and Non-Match Day business at both Ibrox Stadium and the new multi-purpose venue, New Edmiston House (opening late 2022), in close liaison with the General Manager (New Edmiston House).
Ibrox Stadium contains ten VIP Hospitality Lounges and hosts over 2,000 hospitality clients every match day, generating revenues over £8m per season. Ibrox Stadium operates 42 retail F&B concessions each match day for 50,000 supporters and hosts 50+ corporate and private functions yearly on non-match days.
In the 22/23 season, several new lounges will open, including Blue Sky Lounge and a VIP hospitality suite in the club's new state-of-the-art museum. The Blue Sky Lounge development within the Sandy Jardine Stand will open in late 2022 and provide an expansive modern hospitality offering, new club restaurant and events space for the club. Further expansion plans include converting the current Rangers Store to a Sports Bar for supporters.
Rangers Football Club competes in the SPFL Premiership, Domestic Cups, and European competitions with 25-30 fixtures per season hosted at Ibrox stadium. Several music events are also hosted at the stadium, including high profile concerts. In addition, the opening of New Edmiston House on the Ibrox footprint will provide a new home for c. 300 diverse events each year, with a rich mix of concerts, gigs, business conferences, and club events.
The venue will also be available for private hire and corporate events. Expanding the Rangers Women's and B teams will provide further opportunities for corporate delivery and revenue generation as part of the club's long-term strategy.
The Head of Corporate will develop strong relationships with the club’s leading corporate clients and lead the team responsible for providing an industry-leading VIP matchday experience for its corporate guests. In addition, the individual will manage a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders to drive commercial growth and set a new standard in the club's management of corporate clients across various touchpoints.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES
- To lead the Catering Partner joint-venture relationship, VIP Hospitality, Corporate Travel & Corporate Ticketing functions.
- Maximise the strategic and commercial success of the club's joint venture with the new catering partner across a range of areas, including corporate, VIP hospitality & match day F&B outlets (concessions)
- Expand corporate revenues across both match and non-match day functions at Ibrox and New Edmiston House
- Instil processes and operational structures that ensure a best-in-class service is provided to the club's vast community of corporate clients at every touchpoint (match day, corporate ticketing, VIP European travel and Ibrox hospitality), ensuring communication remains both two-way, effective & timely
- Maintain and deliver exceptional standards across all areas of the club's corporate business
- To lead and inspire a team of 6 full-time staff, rising to over 350 on match days
- Introduce innovation, new technologies and modernise all aspects of the corporate function in partnership with the club's joint venture catering partner
- To ensure that workflows within the department are of the highest standard and are continually reviewed and updated
- Budget setting and continuous management
- Board-level reporting of corporate business performance
- To support the Director of Commercial & Marketing with defining the Corporate & Hospitality strategy and overall departmental planning.
- As part of your general duties, you will liaise with several club departments and teams, including Commercial partnerships, Digital content, Marketing, RangersTV, Operations, New Edmiston House, and the Football department.
THE CANDIDATE
The candidate attributes should include:
- 8 years+ experience in a leading Corporate, Hospitality or Commercial role, probably in sport, music, or live events
- Strong commercial understanding and ability to lead strategic change
- Acute appreciation of best-in-class guest experience and match day experience standards at a leading venue
- Ability to thrive in a relentless & high-pressured environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to maintain standards of excellence
- Robust financial and budgeting expertise
- Have an engaging personality and able influencer with the ability to adapt to fresh challenges
