HR Manager
Stephens Bakery | Rosyth | Permanent
Salary: Up to £60,000 FTE (pro rata for 4 days)
Hours: 4 days per week | Onsite
Join a Scottish success story at an exciting stage of its development.
Iconic Resourcing is delighted to be partnering with Stephens Bakery, one of Scotland's best loved family businesses, to appoint an HR Manager.
For more than 150 years, Stephens has been serving communities across Scotland, growing from a local bakery into a thriving business with 16 retail shops, a busy manufacturing operation and established partnerships with some of the UK's leading retailers.
While proud of its heritage, Stephens is firmly focused on the future. With continued investment in the business and a newly appointed Head of People, this is an exciting opportunity to join a growing HR team and play an important role in its next chapter.
We're looking for an experienced HR professional who enjoys being close to the business, building relationships and making a tangible difference to how things are done.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of People, you'll lead the day to day delivery of HR across approximately 270 colleagues spanning manufacturing, retail and support functions.
This is a varied, hands on role combining employee relations, management support and continuous improvement. You'll work closely with operational leaders, providing practical advice, strengthening management capability and helping to develop more effective HR processes and ways of working.
With investment already underway in HR technology and the wider people function, there's genuine scope to contribute ideas, take ownership of improvements and see the impact of your work.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing employee relations matters, including disciplinaries, grievances, absence and performance management.
- Partnering with managers to provide practical advice, coaching and support on people matters.
- Improving HR systems, processes and reporting to create more efficient ways of working.
- Supporting the delivery of people initiatives and projects alongside the Head of People.
- Managing and developing the Recruitment & HR Assistant.
- Overseeing recruitment, onboarding and employee lifecycle processes.
- Supporting learning and development activity across the business.
- Ensuring HR policies and practices remain compliant, consistent and fit for purpose.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who combines strong operational HR expertise with a practical, solutions focused approach.
You'll be confident managing employee relations matters independently, building credibility with managers and making sound decisions. Just as importantly, you'll enjoy finding better ways of doing things, whether that's improving a process, making better use of technology or helping managers strengthen their people skills.
You'll ideally bring:
- Extensive employee relations experience, with the confidence to independently manage complex cases from initial advice through to resolution.
- Experience improving HR processes, systems or ways of working.
- The ability to build credibility and influence managers at different levels.
- A practical, commercially minded approach and the confidence to take ownership.
- CIPD qualification or equivalent experience.
Experience within manufacturing, retail or another operational environment would be advantageous, but isn't essential. We're equally keen to hear from experienced HR Business Partners looking for broader operational responsibility.
Why Join Stephens?
You'll be joining a business that's genuinely investing in its people function, offering the opportunity to work closely with a new Head of People, contribute to meaningful improvements and make a visible impact.
As a fourth-generation family business, Stephens has retained the values that have made it successful for over 150 years. Relationships matter, people work together and a practical, can-do attitude is genuinely valued.
For someone who enjoys the variety of operational HR but also wants the opportunity to help develop and improve a function, this is a role with plenty to offer.
