Role: In-House Regulatory Solicitor

As a Solicitor working in the Regulatory Legal team, you will play a pivotal role in handling important and high-profile regulatory matters across the business. Working as part of a wider team and under the supervision and support of the Legal Director, you will lead and influence legal support for various regulatory issues, ensuring regulatory legal risks are effectively managed and mitigated. Your expertise will be crucial in addressing regulatory or competition law investigations, regulatory appeals, and advising on all regulatory legal matters, including responses to Government and other industry consultations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and advise on regulatory legal issues affecting operations.
- Collaborate with senior managers and the executive team across the businesses, shaping significant energy security and decarbonization matters.
- Build strong working relationships and liaise with internal stakeholders on key regulatory matters.
- Supporting the business to ensure compliance with its regulatory obligations.
- Researching and drafting responses to queries from within the business.
- Drafting internal communications and guidance.
- Risk reviewing contracts.
- Horizon scanning for regulatory legal developments and maintenance of key risk registers.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- UK qualified solicitor or Advocate/Barrister ideally with regulatory experience.
- Ideally NQ to 4 years post qualifying experience.
- Excellent understanding of regulatory and competition law matters or a strong desire to develop this expertise.
- Proven ability to manage and mitigate legal risks effectively.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate complex analysis in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to work autonomously but can also collaborate effectively as part of the wider legal team.
- Self-motivated team player, with a desire to develop strong relationships and excellent time management skills.
- Experience in the energy sector would be highly beneficial or at least a strong interest in the industry sector.
